Thank you for choosing Joe & Sons Concrete. To ensure the longevity and beauty of your surfaces, please follow the care instructions below:

1. Curing Process

  • Walking: You can walk on the concrete once the forms are stripped or after it has cured for 2 days from the pour.
  • Driving: The concrete can be driven on after 14 days.
  • Full Cure: While the concrete will be strong enough for most uses after 14 days, it will reach its full strength in 28 days.
  • After Pour Care: Do not water the concrete unless specifically requested by Joe & Sons Concrete. We use fresh concrete mixed onsite with a mix design that minimizes additional shrinkage during curing, so most times, watering the concrete after the pour is not required.

2. Cleaning

  • Routine Cleaning: Sweep or hose down your concrete regularly to remove dirt and debris.
  • Stain Removal: For stains such as oil, grease, or rust:
    • Oil/Grease: Use a mild detergent or degreaser. Scrub with a stiff brush and rinse thoroughly.
    • Rust: Apply a commercial rust remover, following the manufacturer's instructions. Rinse the area thoroughly after treatment.
  • Power Washing: Use a power washer occasionally for deep cleaning, but keep the pressure below 2,500 psi to avoid damaging the surface.

3. Sealing

  • Initial Sealing: We recommend sealing the surface 30 days after installation. This will protect the surface from stains, moisture penetration, and wear.
  • Resealing: Reapply a sealer every 2-3 years, or as needed, depending on traffic and exposure. Ensure the surface is clean and dry before application.

4. Preventing Damage

  • Avoid De-icing Salts: During winter, use sand or cat litter for traction instead of de-icing salts, which can cause surface scaling.
  • Heavy Equipment: Do not drag heavy objects across the surface as this can scratch or chip it.
  • Planting Near Surfaces: Be cautious when planting trees or large shrubs near your concrete areas. Roots can cause lifting and cracking over time.

5. Addressing Cracks

  • Hairline Cracks: These are common and typically not a structural concern. If you notice larger cracks, contact Joe & Sons Concrete for professional assessment and repair.

6. Winter Care

  • Snow Removal: Use a plastic shovel or a snow blower to remove snow. Avoid metal shovels that can scratch the surface.
  • Avoid Chemicals: Do not use harsh chemicals to melt snow or ice as they can damage the surface.

7. Long-Term Maintenance

  • Regular Inspections: Periodically inspect your surfaces for signs of wear, cracking, or discoloration. Early detection allows for timely repairs and prolongs the lifespan of the surface.
  • Professional Assessment: Contact Joe & Sons Concrete for a professional inspection if you notice significant damage or deterioration.
